Devotion for Today - 02.14.2026

Devotion of the Day

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

In the morning , O Lord, You hear my voice!
In the Morning, I prepare a sacrifice for You and watch!
My mouth is filled with Your praise,
And with Your Glory all the day!
O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall declare Your praise!
Glory Be to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Verse
Psalm 71:1 (ESV) — “In you, O Lord, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame!”

Meditation
Psalm 71 begins with refuge, not resolve. The psalmist does not claim strength, reputation, or achievement as his defense. He takes shelter in the Lord. Refuge implies danger outside and safety within. Morning often exposes vulnerability—uncertain outcomes, fragile plans, unfinished responsibilities. Psalm 71 directs the heart to its proper shelter before the day unfolds. To take refuge in the Lord is an act of trust that rejects self-reliance. Shame here is not embarrassment, but collapse under pressure. The psalmist asks that his trust not be proven empty. That confidence rests in God’s covenant faithfulness. As the day begins, this verse steadies the soul. We do not walk into uncertainty alone. The Lord Himself becomes our protection, our stability, and our honor. Refuge in Him is not escape from duty, but courage for it.

New Testament Verse
2 Timothy 1:12 (ESV) — “I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed.”
As the Psalmist prays not to be put to shame in taking refuge in the Lord, Paul confesses the same confidence in Christ. Trust in God is not misplaced or fragile. As the Psalmist says, refuge in the Lord stands firm and does not end in disgrace.

Old Testament Verse
Proverbs 18:10 (ESV) — “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”
As the Psalmist seeks refuge, Proverbs describes the Lord Himself as a fortified tower. Safety is not found in strategy but in running to God’s revealed name. Both passages proclaim that true security is grounded in who the Lord is.

Collect
O Lord, our refuge and strong tower, guard us from shame and fear at the start of this day. Keep us steadfast in trusting You, that we may walk with courage under Your protection; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn Verse
From depths of woe I cry to Thee,
O Lord, hear my lament!
Incline Thy gracious ear to me
And my supplication grant.
If Thou iniquities dost mark,
Our secret sins and misdeeds dark,
O who shall stand before Thee?
(TLH 329, verse 1)
