Verse
Psalm 77:12–14 – “I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples.”
Meditation
The psalmist responds to trouble not with despair but by remembering the mighty works of the Lord. God’s holiness is revealed not only in His justice but in His wondrous acts of mercy. In reflecting on what God has done, faith is renewed and courage restored. When we feel overwhelmed or forgotten, we turn our eyes to what God has already done—His faithfulness in the past assures us of His presence now. There is no god like our God, who works wonders and makes Himself known to His people.
New Testament
Luke 1:49–50 – “For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.”
Mary’s Magnificat echoes the psalmist’s praise—rejoicing in the holiness, mercy, and mighty works of God through all generations.
Collect
Almighty God, who has made known Your might among the peoples and shown wonders from of old, grant us grace to ponder Your works and meditate on Your deeds, that our faith may be strengthened and our hearts lifted up in praise; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Hymn Verse
“Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is your health and salvation!
Let all who hear now to His temple draw near,
Joining in glad adoration!”
— Praise to the Lord, the Almighty – LSB 790:1
