Daily Devotion for April 2 - John 6:35 - 37

Verse

John 6:35-37“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.’”

Meditation

Jesus, the true Bread of Life, satisfies the deepest hunger of the soul. Unlike earthly bread that perishes, He gives life that endures forever. Faith is not a human achievement but the work of God, who draws His people to Christ. Those given by the Father will come, and Christ will never reject them. This is the promise of divine grace—secure, unshakable, and eternal. In Him, we find nourishment, security, and the assurance that He will never turn us away.

Old Testament

Isaiah 55:1-2“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?”

The prophet calls all to receive the free gift of God's provision, echoing Christ’s invitation to come and be filled with true and lasting sustenance.

Collect

O Lord, who alone gives the true bread of life, grant that we may hunger only for Your righteousness and thirst for the living water of Your grace, that being nourished by Your Word, we may never be cast away, but remain steadfast in faith until the day of redemption; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Hymn Verse

"Guide me, O Thou great Redeemer,
Pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but Thou art mighty;
Hold me with Thy pow’rful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
Feed me till I want no more,
Feed me till I want no more."
