Daily Devotional for February 13 - Psalm 20:4 - 5

 Verse

"May he grant you your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans! May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions!" (Psalm 20:4–5)

Meditation

These verses reflect a heartfelt prayer for success, blessing, and joy in the lives of God’s people. The psalmist asks that the Lord would grant the desires of the heart and bring success to the plans set before Him. This prayer is not about selfish gain but about aligning our desires with God's will and trusting that He will accomplish what is good and right. The psalm also speaks of joy and celebration in God's deliverance, a reminder that true joy comes from His salvation and the victory He brings. To "set up our banners" in His name is to declare His glory and sovereignty over every triumph. The verses call us to approach God with our petitions, confident that He hears and responds according to His will. Ultimately, the focus is on the fulfillment of God's purposes and the joy that flows from seeing His promises realized in our lives.

Gospel

"And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith." (Luke 11:9)

This verse from Luke aligns with the psalmist's confident prayer for God's blessing and the fulfillment of desires and petitions. Just as the psalmist anticipates joy and victory in God's salvation, Jesus encourages His followers to pray with faith, trusting that their petitions will be answered by a gracious God. Both passages celebrate the joy and assurance that come from relying on God’s faithfulness and power to provide.

Collect

O Lord, grant us the desires of our hearts and fulfill all our plans according to Your will. We will sing for joy over Your salvation and raise our banners in Your name, knowing that You grant victory to Your people; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Hymn Verse

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;

To His feet your tribute bring;

Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,

Evermore His praises sing:

Alleluia, alleluia!

Praise the everlasting King.

Praise Him for His grace and favor

To His people in distress;

Praise Him still the same as ever,

Slow to chide and swift to bless:

Alleluia, alleluia!

Glorious in His faithfulness.
