Verse
"I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you: You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him, and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!" (Psalm 22:22–23)
Meditation
These verses mark a powerful shift from lament to praise, as the psalmist, having experienced God’s deliverance and presence, now declares the greatness of the Lord to others. The commitment to “tell of your name” and praise God in the congregation highlights the importance of communal worship and testimony. The call to “fear the Lord” and “glorify him” invites all of God’s people to honor His holiness and greatness, acknowledging His power and faithfulness. The psalmist’s words remind us that our personal encounters with God’s goodness should lead to public declarations of praise, encouraging others to join in worship. To “stand in awe of him” is a call to reverence, recognizing that God is worthy of all honor and worship. These verses encourage believers to testify to the faithfulness of God, especially in times of deliverance, and to inspire others to join in the worship of the One who has shown Himself to be both mighty and merciful.
Gospel
"But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you." (Mark 16:7)
This verse from Mark complements the psalmist’s declaration of proclaiming God's name and inviting the congregation to glorify Him. After His resurrection, Jesus commissions the women to share the good news with His disciples, ensuring that His triumph and glory are made known. Both passages reflect the themes of proclamation, praise, and the invitation to celebrate God's faithfulness and deliverance within the community of believers.
Collect
O Lord, we proclaim Your great name to our brothers and sisters, and in the assembly we praise You. Let all who fear You honor and glorify Your name, for You have shown Your great mercy to us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Hymn Verse
"Come, let us join our cheerful songs
With angels round the throne;
Ten thousand thousand are their tongues,
But all their joys are one.
Worthy the Lamb that died, they cry,
To be exalted thus!
Worthy the Lamb, our hearts reply,
For He was slain for us."
